Automated robot 3D scanning case

2021-07-17 A+ A A-

A large hydraulic equipment manufacturer needs to make product improvements for automated robot parts. Hualang engineers used HL-3DS to quickly obtain high-precision three-dimensional data of robot parts, which shortened the product improvement cycle.

Practical problems

1. Since the scan data involves reverse engineering and quality inspection in the later stage, customers have very high requirements for the accuracy of the scan data.

2. Although the surface of the robot is relatively flat, there are many holes. The traditional measurement method is not only time-consuming, but also the accuracy obtained is not accurate enough.

Holon solutions

According to the characteristics of the KUKA robot, Holon3d engineers recommend the use of a multifunctional three-dimensional scanner HL-3DS, which uses extrapolation multi-frequency phase shift grating technology, code point calibration technology and automatic splicing technology, with fast scanning speed and data Features such as high precision. One of the scans used in the demonstration is about 1 meter long and 0.3 meters wide. The Hualang 3D scanner HL-3DS takes less than 15 minutes from preparation to the end of the scan. The overall error is only 0.02mm. Compared with a foreign equipment, the error is three times smaller, and the scanning speed is not in the same level.

After importing the 3D data of the KUKA robot into the reverse engineering software (Geomagic) for simple processing, and then importing the data into mainstream design software such as Pro/E and UG, the reverse design of the robot can accelerate the development of new products. Using the 3D data in conjunction with the 3D inspection software Geomagic Qualify, you can also perform 3D inspections on later products.
